Volkswagen’s all-new, compact SUV offers a lot of bang for your buck. The 2022 Taos has an attractive starting MSRP of only $22,995 and a lot of features that drivers want. Car and Driver notes that “…considering the Taos’s generous packaging and strong roster of equipment, potential Tiguan buyers won’t have to sacrifice much if they step down to this new lower rung in the brand’s model range.” Basically, the Taos is a well-rounded and thought-out addition to the VW family.
Exterior
Square wheel wells and eye-catching color options like Cornflower Blue, Dusk Blue Metallic and Kings Red Metallic give the Taos a contemporary feel. The illuminated grille adds to its fresh and modern vibe. Higher trim levels offer 18” alloy wheels which highlight the unique wheel well shape.
Interior
Comfort and function take center stage inside the Taos. Upholstery, upholstery leatherette combo or leather are available for seating. High contrast pieces and stitching continue the modern feel inside the cabin, and there’s plenty of legroom!
VW is proud of this new crossover entry, and they should be! With three different trim levels, the S, SE and SEL, there’s something for everyone. They’ve packed a lot into the Taos, and here are some of the features shared on their website:
4MOTION® AWD
VW’s all-wheel-drive system maximizes traction and stability and distributes power as needed to front and rear wheels as road conditions change. Active control offers four modes: Snow, On-Road, Off-Road and Off-Road Custom.
Turbocharged engine
The Taos comes with a 158-horsepower, 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine. Cars.com says that the drive feels “peppier than its numbers suggest” and remarked that the “engine felt nicely tuned to the steering and suspension.”
VW digital cockpit
A digital display that allows drivers to customize what’s shown including speed, travel time, route guidance, assistance systems and more. The high-resolution screen gives a tech upgrade to a traditional-style instrument panel.
IQ.DRIVE®
This is VW’s Advanced Drivers Assistance Technology, which includes a safety bundle of “stop-and-go adaptive cruise control with semi-automated assistance, active blind-spot monitoring, lane keeping assist, automatic forward-collision warning and emergency braking.” This is an add-on for entry models, but comes standard for the SEL.
Car-Net®
VW’s mobile app helps drivers connect with their vehicle remotely. App features include remote commands, family guardian alerts, DriveView, Parking Info, VW Car-Net Safe & Secure and VW Car-Net Hotspot.
Carefree coverage
VW offers what they call Carefree Coverage with their new vehicles. This includes Scheduled Carefree Maintenance (2 years or 20,000 miles), Roadside Assistance (3 years or 36,000 miles), New Vehicle Limited Warranty (4 years or 50,000 miles) and their Car-Net Remote Access through their Car-Net mobile app (5 years).
Ready to roll
If you’re looking for an affordable compact SUV packed full of functional features, the Taos hits the mark. This fun-to-drive option will keep you smiling on the road without having to break the bank. Plus, each trim level offers a variety of features that drivers will appreciate.
